I Love to Cook

This is another "book" that Josh did today. Please note that you have to look at the pictures from right to left (that's how his flow goes).

YELLOW: I asked him where Zoë was and he told me that she wasn't born yet.
GREEN: That's lunch, being cooked. There are two frying pans: on one, he has an egg and on the other, he's making mushroom soup.

BROWN: After lunch, he goes to his friend's house.
ORANGE: His ice cream machine that makes many different flavors. A boiled egg. Cups.


GREEN: Josh's home.
BROWN: Josh and Zoë having fun, playing with balls.


Then Josh and Zoë had a picnic. Only sandwiches were on the blanket. The rest were still inside the picnic basket.

For Aaron

This one is for Aaron, Josh said.

When I was little, I used to cook in a little store. Walking, I saw a rainbow, some butterflies, and then I lost my sister and then I found her at the playground. The sun burned the butterfly. But I "circuited" the clouds to help and Superman to the rescue. But the rain could help easily and the balloons wanted to help, too.

At the back of the drawing, he has written a note for his cousin.


He wants to invite Aaron to Zoë's birthday party.

Aaron has to take an airplane to come to the party, but I don't know how he's going to buy a ticket. He doesn't need a ticket to come to the party, though --it's free.

I Love to Make Apple Juice

When I woke up from my nap today, Josh handed me these four little pieces of note paper carefully taped together (well, as carefully as a 4-year old could). He had made drawings on each of the side of all four papers. He had made a "book" all by himself he said, and wanted me to "write the words" as he told me the story.

Here is I Love to Make Apple Juice by Joshua Lim. I'm laying out the sequence here as he presented them to me, but it was interesting to note that the pages in his book flip to the right (like in old Chinese books).

He told me later that the "sad" face was Zoë because she didn't get
any apples, but he was going to make apple juice for her later
so that she would be happy.

He took the pen from me and wrote "D." When I asked him what
he was doing, he told me that he was going to write "this." *Grin*

The following pictures will give you an
idea of how he taped his book together.

Josh took his book with him to his Socatots class today to show to his friends, but he was very clear that he wanted the book back to show to his daddy, who's away on a business trip.

Day & Night

As part of his homework, Josh is supposed to make drawings of a scene during daytime and another one of night time. This is what he came up with.

For daytime, he drew the sun and an apple tree. He's at the beach, picking apples and he puts two of them in the basket by his feet. (Do you see the little fish swimming in the sea?)

For night time, he drew stars and the moon, a picture of his and Zoë's bedroom with the lights on. There's also our bedroom, which somehow "merged" with the living room (complete with the drawers and the little 'box' where we put all their balls).

Oh, note the number 4 on both pages. He put it there to so that people will know that he is 4 years old. *Grin*

Little Artists at Work

Another artsy afternoon...

Both little ones had their own brush and set of paints.
Nice and neat. I even remembered to get them to wear
protective layers so that they wouldn't get paints on their clothes.

And then this happened...

So both decided to "clean up" the mess on the floor
with their hands and then make hand prints on
their paintings as well.

Ta-da, Mommy!

Boots, Schmoots

I see... boots! What do you see?
(I like the way Josh mixes strokes with little dabs here and
there. I also like the clean spaces in between colors.)

Here, he also has the little "dots"here amidst
the smears. Despite this being finger-painted, where
it's so natural to just "wipe-and-smear" color everywhere
across the page, I think Josh still managed to keep some
sense of "purpose" to this piece.

Zoë's Turn

These are a few from Zoë. She has to get right in there as well, when Josh does his paintings! She almost always discards the paint brush eventually and ends up finger-painting instead. Whenever she finishes one, she brings it over to me and says, "Up, Mommy!" She wants me to hang them up, too, just like I do with Josh's.

This one is "Shades of Green."

I don't know what this one is
supposed to be, but I like it. :)

I love this one. It looks like
a little ballerina twirling really fast.

I had Josh help Zoë make the "frame."

This one here is "Fire."

Oh, Zoë's not just into paints. Check out the PlayDoh
"birthday cake" she made. She actually came to me and
said, "Ber-day, Mommy." I was quite impressed at how
creativeshe got with the sticks and the pom-poms.

I wish "art" is not so messy, though...
